The world of television is awash with series. Some are tear-jerkingly hilarious, others full of drama. A handful quite literally push the laws of physics to their absolute limits, with mythical creatures and the like defying just about every law of nature there is.

Within the realms of TV as we know it though are a select few that have never failed to grab our attention and keep our eyes glued to the screen. Whether we just can’t get enough of fantasy or we prefer something based on ‘real-life’ drama, there really is a programme for everyone.

So, with so many channels to pick from, how do we know where to start? Well, see here for just three hot TV series airing today, and let us know your thoughts on each.

American Horror Story

Fantastically dark, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked, the fifth season of American Horror Story (named Hotel) is highly anticipated by fans everywhere. Adopting different plot lines each season, but staying true to its actors and never fearing introducing new ones along the way, this series is a must-watch if you don’t mind a few (grisly) bumps in the night.

Following the success of American Horror Story: Murder House, the programme went on to gather hundreds of new fans with the likes of Asylum, Coven and Freak Show, in that order. So, grab your blanket and prepare for a season of spooks with American Horror Story: Hotel!

Peaky Blinders

Starring Cillian Murphy as none other than the notorious Thomas Shelby, Peaky Blinders is perfect for those who want to sway from fantasy with a gritty old-style gangster series (and for those who don’t mind violence, mind you).

Set in 1919, this show is based on the infamous gang, named Peaky Blinders, who operated in Birmingham in the last half of the 19th century. It was said that they would sew razor blades into their caps, hence their name. The series itself is, of course, also set in Birmingham, where Thomas Shelby has his eyes on big (perhaps impossible) dreams.

With a third season confirmed, it is another series for fans to look forward to.

Game of Thrones

Now for a series that has captured the nation’s hearts and attention, and that’s a little closer to home for us Irish folk – literally!

With parts of this series being filmed in Northern Ireland, a tour is a fantastic way to really get to grips with the intriguing yet twisted plot, the heartless characters that are so superbly played, and the fantasy aspects.

Now in its fifth season, what awaits our favourite and most-hated characters is a mystery. What we do know is that the following and the hype surrounding Game of Thrones is second to none.

So, which of these three TV series is your favourite? Haven’t you seen any of them? Well, it’s time to snuggle down this evening and catch up with all the action and dark plots!
